The 28th annual Critics’ Choice Awards took place in Los Angeles on Sunday, the 15th of January, a ceremony produced to celebrate the achievements of the film and television industry throughout the year. But, as with all award ceremonies, it is not only a celebration of the industry at the heart of the awards. It is also a celebration of fashion as we see the outfits deemed worthy enough to grace the red carpet. Here is the run-down of all of the best looks from the night.
Daisy Edgar-Jones
Critics’ Choice Look: Gucci
Daisy Edgar Jones has been on a red-carpet winning streak lately. The star of Normal People and Where the Crawdads Sing followed her show-stopping Golden Globes look with another Gucci gown. This look couldn’t have been more different than the one she sported a few nights earlier. Contrasting the elegant goth look from the Golden Globes, Daisy wore an asymmetric cut-out gown with elaborate cape detailing. The silhouette channelled the retro feel that Gucci has harnessed under Alessandro Michele. Still, the metallic fabric incorporated a modern twist.
Madelyn Cline
Critics’ Choice Look: Givenchy
From the success of Outer Banks to Glass Onion, Madelyn Cline is about to take over the world, and the fashion world is no exception. The actress paired her Old Hollywood-inspired hair and makeup with a black feathered Givenchy gown. Her outfit was the perfect balance between simplicity, elegance, and drama.
Anya Taylor-Joy
Critics’ Choice Look: Dior and Tiffany & Co
Never falling short of lovely red-carpet looks, Anya Taylor Joy takes up one of her usual positions on our best-dressed list. The Menu star wore a sheer A-line Dior Haute Couture gown that was delicately embellished to match her 20+ carats of Tiffany diamonds.
Janelle Monáe
Critics’ Choice Look: Vera Wang
Yet another member of the Glass Onion cast graces our best-dressed list. Janelle Monáe accepted the SeeHer Award at the ceremony, clarifying that her chosen pronouns are both she/her and they/them. She used her speech to celebrate her place within the LGBTQ+ community and how much the award meant to them. Janelle Monàe made a beautiful and meaningful speech and was one of the night’s best dressed. Wearing a sheer black Vera Wang gown with delicate ruching, hip cut-outs and a halter neck, she looked soft and powerful. It highlighted a beautiful juxtaposition between these two ideas and their harmony.
