Last night marked the 95th Academy Awards, better known as the Oscars. It might have been this season’s most fashionable award show. The biggest names in film gathered in Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre to honour the contributions made to the industry over the past 12 months. The countless looks were a beautiful by-product of this star-studded event.
Emily Blunt
Oscars 2023 Choice: Valentino
Andy Sachs, Emily Charlton, and even Miranda Priestly would approve. Emily Blunt’s sleek Valentino look was classic and timeless. The white off-shoulder gown was clean and perfectly form-fitting. The dress came courtesy of Valentino’s Urban Riviera collection, and pink Chopard earrings accessorised it, adding the right amount of colour to the look.
Cara Delevigne
Oscars 2023 Choice: Elie Saab
Cara Delevingne is genuinely having a fashion comeback. Last month she made her way onto our SAG Awards Best Dressed List, and here she is again. This time the model and actress wore a bright red gown from Elie Saab that epitomised red-carpet dressing. The gown featured a classic ballgown silhouette with a dramatic leg slit; each pleat was perfectly placed as the dress immaculately clung to her figure before draping dramatically below the waist.
The asymmetrical design added an exciting neckline rather than a classic bandeau. Ultimately, the outfit was perfectly accessorised with red shoes, sparkling diamonds and glamorous makeup. This look is what I would dream of wearing to the Oscars, and I think it will be on everyone’s minds for a long time.
Tems
Oscars 2023 Choice: Lever Couture
We all remember when La La Land was wrongly announced as the Best Picture winner or last year when Will Smith smacked Chris Rock on stage; The Oscars are no stranger to scandal. However, I did not expect this year’s to be Tems’ dress.
The controversy surrounding the look was not whether or not people liked the dress; it was the fact that the highly structured gown featured a headpiece that appeared to obstruct the view of those sitting behind her during the ceremony. That said, if I sat behind Tems last night, I would have loved looking at such a beautiful dress for a couple of hours.
The Ukrainian fashion house Lever Couture designed the dress, and there is no way to describe it other than as a work of art. The silhouette was sculptural, yet the material appeared so delicate that it was almost cloud-like. Whether you’re on team Tems or feeling bad for those who sat behind her, there is no way to escape the fact that this look was immaculate.
