The UK is a strong supporter of institutions that outlive their founders because they represent impeccable quality and craftsmanship. The creme de la creme of the business of fashion. We can use these institutions to compete on the global stage when discussing the contributions we’ve made to enhance the world. Moreover, the need to prove our contributions is ever more in the spotlight, given our back-to-back LFW SS26 presentations on the future of fashion. The fashion industry is said to be worth US$920bn in 2025. With a number that large, it begs the question: Why does fashion have no cultural staying power?

Much like some say the Royal Family are a great tourist attraction that generates money for the British economy, Burberry is that for fashion. Burberry has been threading the needle since the 1800s and, through its use of house ambassadors and staple garments, attracts loyal customers each year. These customers are likely to descend on London during Fashion Week, hoping to see a new collection with a traditional twist. This fearful-avoidant attachment style I see in fashion keeps the city’s global dominance alive. They want to wear a heritage brand, but they don’t want to look like they’ve “been here” before. Consumers don’t mind a timeless wardrobe as long as it doesn’t age them. And when a collection like Burberry fails to hit that sweet spot, they’re onto the next.

Typically, it doesn’t matter if consumers don’t like what one fashion house has to offer, because plenty more present collections that week. And so, looking back at LFW from November, here’s how those collections fit into the global narrative for 2025.
