Firstly, no such brand exists—that was a trick question. Fashion is nothing. Fashion is textiles sewn together to shield the body from societal shame. It’s why HR advises women against spaghetti straps in the office and men against short sleeves in spring-summer. Style, on the other hand, is everlasting. It’s the reason you ask someone where they buy a tank top or a pair of blue jeans. It’s trivial questions like that that make you furrow your eyebrows into your orbital bones. Style supports a person’s state of mind. For example, wearing a wool jumper in autumn is fashion. Wearing a wool jumper with nothing but a bra underneath in summer is ‘style’.

When dressing, only the sartorially challenged or paid ambassadors wear one brand from head to toe. With London being as multicultural as it is, style cannot be monopolised by one brand. Thus making the idea that any one brand can monopolise attention in London mute.

Style doesn’t make sense. But in reality, it absolutely does. You have a pair of pants that you want to wear, but only that chunky wool sweater matches. The answer is to suffer for the art of dressing well.

Tolu Coker seemed a big draw yesterday, evidenced by the arrival of King Charles. But from today, I’m keeping my eyes on Bora Aksu, Labrum London and Masha Popova to name a few. Richard Quinn and Burberry will nod towards legacy and bring a heritage-inspired collection to the season. But time will tell.
