Chanel’s Not So Stunning Cruise Line Resort 2024
This year, Chanel made a pit stop in LA to release their Resort line in honour of its relationship with Hollywood. The luxury brand performed a womenswear catwalk partnered with a classical movie film leader to start. With a cinematic dawn of the classic reel countdown, this left us with anticipation for the appearance of models. Let us review what Chanel has to offer for the foreseeable future of fashion.
This open-air show was a Spring/Summer line that wanted to raise the aesthetic of a luxurious holiday through the artistry of fashion. The inspiration flowed from the glitz, fame and glamour of traditional Hollywood. The runway for these models was a colossal floor space with the Chanel logo spread across it; this brand image consisted of the representation of their perfume bottles. An innovative feature that I enjoyed. A large screen had overseen the show, relaying clips in black and white. Beautiful models alongside palm trees and a blaring sun transported us to a resort vacation in LA.
Swimwear by Chanel
To begin our recess, we were presented with true summer wear attire involving swimwear, tank tops and one-piece swimsuits. It is refreshing to witness a collection that is a truly realistic representation of the hotter months! Despite the relation to the theme, I believed these all to be pretty boring. “Nice” is the only word that invaded my mind when reviewing the start of the parade. It’s a shame that typically, with these high-end fashion brands, they only want to stick to one style, which is high-end glam.
Of course, we can appreciate the classicism of glamour; however, sometimes, we need a little more spice than they give us. It seems common with all their black outfits throughout this collection. Despite having a classy outward appearance, they all have basic undertones. This is a shame, considering it is a hugely successful brand.
Aspects of the line that are an inspiration to the garments are the applicants of sequins, stones and starstruck. They are beaming through the lights of the catwalk. Sparkles never fail to impress, let’s be honest. These encrusted pieces are an uplifting character to the line that gives it some umph for sure! Nothing speaks glamour like the scream of jewels.
Think Pink!
Think Pink! My favourite colour is pink, so I guess I am biased; however, the pink sector that graced us through “Resort” is one of my only favourable inclusions from the line. Pink is a girl’s best friend and even shows a resemblance to the hit movie Barbie. At least, that’s the reminder I got upon review. Trends aren’t always the best to follow, especially if they can be overplayed; however, we all know pink will always be the “it” thing.
No womenswear collection would be complete without the addition of blazers. Women are great at pulling off “masculine” styled dress wear. These ultra-feminine blazers are a luxurious take on a common blazer. The fabrication of tweed alongside floral and sequin attachments establishes money and luxury. Attributions to slightly juxtapose the smart dress wear, we were given a glimpse of streetwear. My impression was that Chanel wasn’t too keen on applying many casual looks to the runway, and in my opinion, they should’ve included a longer variety of streetwear. When I think of an LA vacation, skating and casual beachwear come to mind. Shame this couldn’t have been a more important selection.
All The Colours in the Resort
Chanel didn’t leave us hanging when it came to variety. It seemed we had a buffet of colours presented that were all cohesive. Slick black, pungent pink and gorgeous purples were an inspiring concoction throughout the line. No ugly contrasts or overpowering coordination! More diversity makes a stance throughout the structure of all the outfits. From swimwear to streetwear to business chic, we see a kaleidoscope of length and form. It is obvious throughout this collection, that Chanel was aiming to appease the masses. No matter your vibe for summer, there is something for everyone, I guess!
In conclusion, this resort line is a sweet homage to their Hollywood relationship, though as a fan of quirky and alternative fashion, I must say the overall word to describe this line is “Nice”. My verdict stands positive within the aspect that the entire runway embellished the “Rich LA girl” fantasy. You will see these girls on the way to a business meeting, brunch, or the beach for cocktails with money to burn! Chanel clearly wishes to stick to what they’re known for, which is rich girl glamour, and I’m here for it when it isn’t as standard as this line. There were compelling components. However, as an overall collection, I wasn’t stunned or highly impressed by anything.
