Terry Singh Teaches Men How To Dress For Spring During NYFW

No matter the location or season of collection, when I review Fashion Week I am looking for something that is strikingly interesting. Art is created to express and collect emotion. I felt overjoyed when I came across Terry Singh and his collection for NYFW 2024.

Presented at Daylight Studio, Singh developed a line to altercate society’s expectations of what we expect men to wear. Hence why, I was thrilled to come across this line. It is time to change how we view clothing and gender. Let’s dig further into his process and the reasons why we need more runways such as this.

Terry Singh released a divine selection of skirts worn by typically more masculine individuals in the hopes of diminishing toxic masculinity. Singh didn’t just roll up to the studio and think about making a controversial performance; he embarked on a self-discovery journey to unfold the detailed meaning behind his creations.

Singh toured India in hopes of culture and reflection as he performed rituals upon mountains. During this time, he discovered revelations where he could change his male state of mind and dive deeper into the aspects of gender. Related to this journey, Singh found inspiration from Dhoti. A Dhoti is a type of sarong fastened at the legs to form loose trousers. The free-flowing aspects can make a direct link to modern skirts, which is where I assume the relation led to Singh’s inspiration.

Terry Singh: The Collection

The skirts aren’t just your standard pencil or tennis structures. They have an impressive character and a stylish means that uplift the menswear for Spring at NYFW. With varying lengths, angles and asymmetry, they possess an eccentric style that works in their favour. Sophisticated whilst still, alternative is a combination I would like to use to describe the uniqueness of these garments.

It is easy to get carried away when it comes to the “feminisation” of men’s clothes. However, the pairing of the “masculine” blazers, jackets and shirts creates a well-rounded balance of masc and fem energies. The coordinated looks and matching colours allow for cohesive matching co-ords.

An array of colours was partnered with the structures, amplifying the variety and escorting the class to the runway. Nothing too luminous was included, and I respect this decision since it was obvious Singh wanted to make a statement whilst still making it a formal and strong collection.

It appears Terry Singh’s goal was to create a line that considers society to reshape its view on men’s clothing and the gender norms of fashion. It’s a shame that making a stance along these lines is the aspect of being at peace with your gender and being comfortable in your masculinity or femininity. This should be a given, not a protest! Though we’re on our way to a better world where we see collections such as this in the media and looking so good whilst doing it!

Masculine and Feminine

Singh preserves masculinity in his own special way whilst revealing the freedom of the everyday man, no matter their sexual orientation or gender assigned at birth. Anyone who disagrees with such art and beauty must question their own identity as I would like to ask them what makes a man. Because I don’t think many could answer that question.

As a fashion writer, I must admit I am always intrigued to review menswear, which is actually exciting! It is not often I come across lines directed towards men that usually appeal to me or make me want to go into depth within the garments. It is obvious that Singh understood it needed to be executed well during NYFW. To make this statement, I believe it was definitely refined.

These outfits are gorgeous, and I would love to wear all of them. I need these outfits in my wardrobe! As an overall line from NYFW, I am impressed with the creativity, technical skills and the meaning behind it. Singh set out to reveal an inner epiphany unleashed onto fabric and runway, and I believe this was a successful demonstration. We need more of this representation to the point where it is no longer a unique stance.
