The Latest Faux Fur-tastic Collection by Area Studio
New York Fashion Week has unfortunately come to an end as we fly through the schedules. Upon research, I was impressed by many runways and designers, but only a few really put me in a chokehold. One of those was AREA. This brand was a showstopper for me and stood out a mile compared to most other runways. The order definitely saves best ‘til last.
The AREA Dream Team
Designers Piotrek Panszcyk and Beckett Fogg are a dream team in their work, creating playfully decadent garments and exploring femininity and beauty. These two meld uniquely diverse ideas to form multiple lines and gorgeous glamour in NYC. This has developed a mass following and fanbase that has helped their success build since 2014 when AREA was founded. This relatively new brand has developed a unique style of glamour that I must review for their Fashion Week appearance for 2024.
First and foremost, we must touch upon the fur subject; now, at a glance, I thought that we were going to have to boycott due to the use of real fur, but upon research, I have come to find out it is merely a fur print! No animals were harmed in the making of this movie, thank god!
It is astonishing how realistic the fur pattern seems upon the camera lens; I imagine it would’ve been different along the runway in real life. However, upon the screen, it genuinely did trick my eye. This faux fur application is one of my favourite aspects of the line as it reads so cohesive and high-end fashion with ethical morals behind it.
Colours and Animal Patterns
The colours involved range from denim blues to stunning beige fur patterns and even branch out to pastels and plaid. All these block colours and eccentric patterns are partnered with the works of dazzling jewels, including earrings and bracelets. The addition of the accessories creates a broken-up palette that allows for the block colours to stand out without being overshadowed or lost. I love the colours involved, and I cannot get enough of this line!
The fur factor is further enhanced with the reference to animals throughout the entire collection. As an animal lover myself, you cannot go wrong with a bit of animalistic inclusion. There is a lot of material in a theme such as this. The foxes wrapped around necks made for quirky yet beautiful tops, matching the co-ord bottoms and staying on brand.
Not to mention, I felt stunned by the innovative creation of the claw marks across some of the garments as jewel-like bone claws accompanied them to add class and quirk. This funky and intelligent pairing acted as a high-end Avant Garde feature. They were a gorgeous attribution that probably marks it one of the reasons for this article.
Striking masks and headgear were an astonishing accessory across the line. With stoned masks, the bling blinded us! These masks added another form of sophisticated glam with a touch of the Club kid genre. This Inclusion allowed for the collection to withhold class but ensure an artistic flare. They scream chic and remind us of the bizarre.
Pairing the Hairstyles to the Collection
Hair was a consecutive alignment as the stylist either juxtaposed or matched hairstyles. We received as a gift back brushed or frizzy hair that paired with the features of bones, fur and animals. It was either all or nothing with this runway, as models had massive bouncing hair or hair that was flat to the head. Whether it is braids, shaven or hidden under headwear. The coordinated and cohesive matching throughout this entire collection is very satisfying to the eye, and I’m sure the audience, no matter their stance, was aware of the links made. They really knew what they were doing here.
The overall aesthetic I perceived from the line was “modern rich caveman”, and I love it! It’s a sharp and refined take on such classic themes and materials, and that is what I respect about this brand. They truly explore the challenges of beauty standards and continuously changing trends by breeding multiple concepts and giving them an AREA spin. There isn’t a single disappointing aspect to this collection, and therefore, it is even one of my favourites of the year. It’s truly roaring!
