Florence Is A Big Stunning Red Dream At The BAFTAs

London Fashion Week was not the only event getting us excited about fashion this week; the 2023 BAFTAs took over the Royal Albert Hall last Sunday night, and the red carpet hosted some of the film industry’s best. With a night of celebrations came the usual night of looks, so here are our night winners

Anya Taylor Joy

BAFTAs Choice: Schiaparelli

Anya Taylor Joy took to the BAFTA red carpet in a velvet Schiaparelli ensemble from the Spring/Summer 2023 collection. The strapless mini-dress was paired with a voluptuous hooded cape flowing across the floor in a long train. The champagne hue exuded luxury and combined with the liquid velvet texture to make a look perfect for a red carpet.

Florence Pugh

BAFTAs Choice: Nina Ricci

Florence Pugh supported their friend Harris Reed by appearing at his London Fashion Week show on Friday. Pugh continued this support on the BAFTAs red carpet as she wore a sculptural Nina Ricci gown ahead of the release of Reed’s debut collection for the brand at Paris Fashion Week in March. The star of The Wonder wore a vibrant orange dress that Reed later revealed to be the first look from his upcoming collection; the designer took to Instagram to write:

As I pack my bags for Paris, ahead of my first runway show as creative director for Nina Ricci, I give you @florencepugh in my first Nina Ricci runway look at tonight’s BAFTA’S. This dress is based on an orange couture gown from the @ninaricci archival 1988 collection. This was the first sketch I did for the brand and am absolutely speechless to have such an incredible individual wearing it! thank you to the incredible @rebeccacorbinmurray.”

Harris Reed

The look featured an extravagant fish-tail train and a dramatic tulle detail around the bandeau neckline. This elaborate tulle was paired perfectly with Pugh’s slicked-back spikey bun, which perfectly replicated the smooth element of the fitted dress and the ornate silhouette.

Sheila Atim

BAFTAs Choice: Prada

Sheila Atim was all over the silver trend in her Prada gown and gloves. The metallic look was so smooth it appeared almost like liquid metal dripping down her body. But the outfit was not the only thing that shone. The straight neckline was paired perfectly with an elaborate Chopard necklace. The look was outstanding and outlandish; the dress was a design we wouldn’t expect from Prada, as the metallic look appeared futuristic and almost robotic. Still, these unexpected looks are often our favourites for that very reason.

Vera Wang

BAFTAs Choice: Vera Wang

Vera Wang looked as chic as always on the 2023 BAFTAs red carpet. Her minimalist yet modern gown featured a black bandeau. A white silk slip delicately draped over her body and cowled just over the hip. The sleek look was by far one of our favourites from the night.

Leonie Hanne

BAFTAs Choice: Valentino

Leonie Hanne took to the red carpet in a neutral feathered gown from Valentino’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection. The elaborately feathered slip dress brought drama to the award ceremony. Yet, its light blush colour allowed it to still remain somewhat understated. The sheer slip and precisely placed feathers create an exciting take on the red-carpet favourite ‘naked dress’.

Millie Brady

BAFTAs Choice: Miu Miu

The white Miu Miu boxer shorts were visible through a simple sheer black dress that looked straight from the 90s. The stark contrast of the colour palette complemented the binaries of casual and formal that the visible underwear on the red carpet provided. Millie Brady proved that the boxer-short trend is unstoppable, effortlessly elevating the look and making it red-carpet worthy.

HoYeon Jung

BAFTAs Choice: Louis Vuitton

HoYeon Jung channelled classic Old Hollywood Glamour on the 2023 BAFTAs red carpet with a traditional ball gown silhouette from Louis Vuitton. The gold gown was paired with a sleek updo and a bold red lip, perfectly capturing the beautiful looks of Old Hollywood starlets. A diamond collar necklace complemented the dress’s neckline. A look that could have been seen in Grace Kelly herself.
