The Cannes Film Festival, traditionally known as Festival De Cannes, is hosted in Cannes, France. It is an annual event that previews new films of all genres from all over the globe. This highly prestigious event invites A-list celebrities worldwide, from models to movie stars. The Cannes Festival 2023 is by invitation-only (hello Rahi Chadda), founded in 1946 and most commonly presented across days in May, making 2023 the 76th running year. As the festival has recently ended, I am here to address my favourites for the sseditorial best dressed, but beware – this took a lot of work to narrow down!
Rahi Chadda
Cannes Festival 2023 Choice: Homolog
Known to pull consecutive good looks out of his closet, Rahi Chadda appeared in a stunning suit by Homolog. Unlike others who attended in a standard two-piece, Chadda brought a unique take on the classic attire. The colour alone is a stand-out contribution that forced me to adore the outfit. You cannot go wrong with a splash of pink! No matter the shade. The outgoing complement of the ruffles was a full attribution to the suit. The icing on this pink cake was the jewelled details, contrasting the magenta and finishing the overall aesthetic.
Jessica Wang
Cannes Festival 2023 Choice: LaQuan Smith
Across The festival, Jessica Wang graced the red carpet with a collection of beautiful gowns that caught my eye. Sheer, see-through and sexy was a common theme for Wang this year, and I was living for it! Wearing a black Christian Siriano number with hair to match, Wang floated in such a structural dress. The pattern and detail additions were definitely uplifting the garment. The striking red gown she brought to the carpet was another gorgeous garment we needed to see. The links between the garments were a refreshing concept.
Kate Beckinsale
Cannes Festival 2023 Choice: Zuhair Murad Couture
Arriving in Zuhair Murad Couture, Kate Beckinsale killed it with this mint green garment. I needed to mention a refreshing outfit due to the contrast of form and beautiful detail. The high neck and long levees are a magnificent feature of the look, paired with the shorts that bring a unique flare to the outfit. I am a sucker for a high neck! The combination of the tight bodice matched with draped and tied fabric made for an elegant dress. Tying the side of the garment and leaving open space at the front was an exciting component that certainly paid off.
Elsa Hosk
Cannes Festivale 2023 Choice: Viktor and Rolf
Swedish model Elsa Hosk pulled consistent looks for the festival, leaving me in awe. Hosk was fortunate enough to attend wearing a Viktor and Rolf couture dress featured earlier this year at fashion week. The slanted dress is one of the many iconic and avant-garde pieces released recently. This look was a refined combination of tone, accessories and class. Hosk was consistent with her outfits, also attending wearing a gorgeous sheer gown. This sexy number hugged her body perfectly with the draping of frills, creating a glamorous garment. Elsa Hosk was a beautiful addition to the festival, and she left me gagged on the red carpet.
Cindy Bruna
Cannes Festival 2023 Choice: Vivienne Westwood
Arriving for the “Club Zero” Premiere, Cindy Bruna made my favourites list with her mini black number. The Avellano tulle garment was an astounding piece that made a statement on the carpet. Bruna appeared to have walked straight from the runway and given me everything I needed with this look. The boater hat added a contrasting structure to the other outfits I adore. Not to mention the pairing with the diamond choker. This was a stunning attribute to the carpet, showing off her class, sass and taste.
Leonie Hanne
Cannes Festival 2023 Choice: Georges Hobeika
Leonie Hanne represented movie star glamour with this Georges Hobeika Custom gown. Gliding onto the carpet, this stoned garment was a refreshing and sophisticated touch to the festival. I love the elegance and sheer beauty of the overall dress. The couture feather stole elevated and created the aesthetic. Hanne was doused in blue chic and certainly made a remarkable impression.
Ashley Graham
Cannes Festival 2023 Choice: Dolce and Gabbana
We received big, bold and beautiful inspiration from Ashley Graham, who attended the festival wearing Dolce and Gabbana. This structural gown was mounds of fabric that just made sense! The pale tone of the dress called for a subtle and chic rather than over-the-top, which could’ve been a tacky mistake had it been an outgoing colour. To further the elegance, the train was a perfect addition creating more form to the garment. She glided across the carpet in this boastful dress.
Clotilde Courau
Cannes Festival 2023 Choice: Valentino
Acting as a counterpart compared to her fellow femme guests, Clotilde Courau arrived in a sophisticated shirt and skirt. Black tie and boxy, Courau appeared for the “Club Zero” premiere. Like an FBI agent gone chic, I loved this outfit due to its gender bend on being suited and booted. An impressive heel height is always a bonus for these events, and Clotilde didn’t give this one a miss. The elongated form and paired glasses all screamed high fashion to me.
Julia Fox
Cannes Festival 2023 Choice: Cameron Hancock
Julia Fox knew that heads would turn to her looks across the Cannes Festival! With her sheer and shocking outfits, I saw her free the nipple with her gorgeous glass-sculpted bodice. This triumphant avant-garde look definitely had to make my favourites list. The makeup and the ballooning white bottom half of the garment made for an overall masterpiece. Fox was a walking piece of Art on the 21st, not to mention her other white look made a great impression.
