Restore Me: The Best Romance You Will Read This Year

It’s been a while since a book captured my full attention and heart, yet J.L. Seegars has done that. Restore Me is a black love romance with depth and soul that sometimes is missing in books.

The New Heaven Series by the author J.L. Seegars is a captivating collection of novels. The stories blend romance, drama, and a touch of mystery. The novels are set in a contemporary world. The series explores love, redemption, and personal growth themes while weaving intricate character relationships and compelling storylines.

J.L. Seegars is a phenomenal writer who writes poetically and invokes emotions. I rarely cry when it comes to books, but with the series, I cried. Restore Me does contain heavy topics that are handled sensitively. This book contains very triggering topics that J.L. Seegars issues before you read the book.

“Dominic Alexander is my late husband’s best friend and the last man on Earth I should want. He’s arrogant, dismissive…”

My Review of Restore Me

Restore Me is the first book in the series. It follows Sloane, who lost her husband four years previously and is trying to navigate life after her husband’s death. Enemies to lovers can be typical and sometimes predictable; however, Janil manages to make it interesting.

Sloane has never moved on from her late husband Eric, who was the love of her life, until her late husband’s best friend Dominic, who she despises, saves her from a terrible event, and feelings begin to emerge. However, they can’t let their friends and family know as it could cause terrible damage to them, and Sloan and Dom can’t allow that to happen, so they keep their relationship secret.

The story is written in first person, allowing you to get into the characters’ heads and understand what they are going through. J.L.’s storytelling submerges you into their world, and you feel as though you are experiencing what they are going through.

“Sloane Kent is going to be my undoing.

Sloane can be selfish at times, Dominic can be overprotective, and sometimes, they do not communicate well with each other. However, it makes the book realistic as some romance books are just too perfect, and in real life, relationships are flawed.

In Conclusion

J.L. Seegars’ talent as a writer is that she describes the characters incredibly well. You can imagine what they look like and evoke so many emotions that make you feel as if you are experiencing what they are through the author’s words. Usually, I would avoid a book where the woman ends up with her late husband’s brother or friend. However, Janil conveys the story beautifully, and the reader roots for their relationship to work out. I haven’t felt like that thanks to a book in such a long time. It is refreshing to see a romance book that encapsulates what grief and love are like. I have never experienced the loss of a romantic partner; however, J.L. conveys it very sensitively and respectfully.

The flashback scenes are exquisite and provide context to the story. I couldn’t put the book down. I wanted to know what was going to happen next. Long after I read it, I still think about the characters, and that is a testament to Janil, whose words leave a mark.
