Joseph Atelier: The Best Shop for the Coolest Graphics

One brand that I have been in love with for the past year is the Berlin-based and sustainable Joseph Atelier. Joseph Atelier began in 2019 when founders Josephine and Til sold second-hand pieces. Josephine painted those with her illustrations to inject new life into these now-unique pieces. This origin story has since developed into Joseph Atelier’s limited-edition collections. And I am desperate to get my hands on every time they drop.

The pieces are imbued with character. The fun graphics across t-shirts and hoodies feel special. That is because you know that they are so rare and have such a cool origin story behind them. This feeling is heightened even further by Josephine’s illustration style. The perfectly imperfect sketches add so much character to the pieces. They also play perfectly into the effortlessly cool aesthetic that they put out.

One of my favourite things about the brand is its visuals. The team has perfectly curated an aesthetic that feeds into the effortlessly cool persona of the clothing. Images of the pieces worn while swimming, surfing and skateboarding are prominent throughout the brand’s Instagram and TikTok feeds (@joseph.atelier). This helps to build the character of Joseph Atelier.

Joseph Atelier Coffee Table Books

The importance of visuals continues beyond there. The brand has previously released two coffee table books. Two items that I desperately want to own one day. They display the visuals that are so integral to the brand. These minimalist books share behind-the-scenes images and the inspirations the company’s core holds so closely. As you may be able to guess from how cool the brand itself is, those inspirations are also very cool.

These coffee table books are not currently available. Fingers crossed for a restock. But you can get a similar feel from the brand’s online magazine. There have been two issues filled with images, sketches and stories. Along with brand secrets and surprises, the second edition is available for download.

As the brand works in limited edition collections, I can’t show you what I am currently loving about the brand. But while I eagerly anticipate the brand’s August release (which I highly recommend you sign up for access to as these items sell out very quickly), allow me to indulge myself in some of my favourite pieces from the brand so far.

The Berry Blue Case

This is one of the few items it’s currently available to pre-order. While it is not technically a piece of clothing, in the era of mirror selfies, a phone case has become an essential accessory. The fruit-themed designs from this brand are my all-time favourites, and having these character-filled little strawberries scattered across my phone isn’t a want. It’s a need.

The Berry Lips T-shirt

Continuing the strawberry theme, one of the brand’s recent releases included the ‘berry lips’ t-shirt, which featured the strawberry illustrations on the phone case I previously mentioned on the back of an oversized t-shirt. This is my idea of the perfect graphic tee. The illustration feels unique and artistic, which I prefer to the generally oversaturated graphics in high-street stores. I also like when the main graphic of a t-shirt is on the back of the shirt, and the front stays minimal, so for me, the small logo in the top corner of this t-shirt is ideal.

In the past, the brand has released various fruit illustrations of this design, including the pear design that first made me fall in love with this brand, so I am determined to get one in one release, hopefully in this l blue and white colour-way that I have begun to associate so closely with the brand.
