As we continue to look back at NYFW, presentations are a part of the global fashion narrative. SS26 NYFW came and left with no cultural residue. It’s almost as if the festivities didn’t happen. Hardly any of the prominent designers (COS, Michael Kors) are monopolising the world’s attention after releasing modern collections. Let’s uncover why.

In large part, many of the world’s stabilised economies have neglected to legitimise the austerity we are all facing. Yes, there is research to support why consumers spend more during a recession, but that’s not all. We’re currently seeing a decline in ‘influencer marketing’. The rise of influencer marketing during COVID was incredible because companies could spend less on advertising and still reach their target audience.

Five years later, with the rise of AI, the advertising industry has been disrupted. Consumers are being bombarded by traditional advertising and new media that fail to disclose when they’re being paid to advertise. Have you listened to a podcast lately, and the hosts continuously mention a product with unwavering guilt? Have you watched a TV episode and the camera focuses on a particular drink? Product placement has become lax and overburdensome. So overburdensome that it could now turn you off your favourite brands.
