And so we are back with another International Fashion Week events schedule. As part of my quest to broaden my horizons and introduce friends to other fashion communities, I am taking a trip to Latvia. Riga, to be specific. It has been documented that, outside of the Big Four, most Western professionals don’t typically participate in the festivities. Still, Riga Fashion Week (“RIGA FW”) is special to me because of a recent development that I can’t yet divulge.

To my surprise, Riga Fashion Week shares the same acronym as Riyadh Fashion Week (“RFW”). However, as Riyadh begins before Riga, I will use RIGA FW when referring to our Latvian friends to ensure everything is clear. This season marks the 20th anniversary of RIGA FW, managed by the Baltic Fashion Federation. Its President, Elena Strahova, said, ‘Over the years, we have held 670 shows, where designers from Italy, France, Spain, and of course, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia presented their runway collections. It’s hard to believe so much has been accomplished.’

The Federation then went on to acknowledge that for 20 years, the RIGA FW has been preserving and promoting Latvia’s cultural heritage through fashion. That’s great because one thing I can approve of is their late 1990s-early 2000s supermodel export Carmen Kass from Estonia!

It is great to see how far they have come, and to jump into international territory that has given a platform to 16 other countries is incredible. RIGA FW begins tomorrow on the 28th of October, after a much-needed break and ends on the 31st of October. Here are the current shows and presentations in the lineup curated for you to keep an eye on and watch in retrospect.
