SHFW 2025: EastEast meetsmeets edgeedge withwith Comme Moi, MARKGONG & Vivienne Westwood

I know. The international fashion scene is a lot to keep up with. Never have I reported on a fashion event that is in a time zone half a day ahead of mine. But that’s why I love the APAC region. I am no stranger to scheduling calls and meetings with people based in China, the UK and the US. Let me tell you, right now, this is one of the most tedious administrative tasks you could ever have in life. Someone has to join a call super early or criminally late, which means dealing with fatigue and attitude. Shanghai Fashion Week (“SHFW 2025”) is underway, and there is much more happening than in the Dominican Republic (“DR”).

Firstly, my perception of Shanghai is that it has a much more “inclusive” culture. One of the downsides to the DR I pointed out is that they need to hold more space for presentations. You can read my reason why here. But in Shanghai, not only have they allocated space for presentations, but they have also allocated space for trade shows. I imagine that some in the UK do not hear much about SHFW because it operates in a different time zone. The world can be pretty fractured at times.

Still, the benefits of immigration and the UK’s melting pot of cultures mean embracing and learning from them. After all, England wouldn’t be England if foreign interest were illegal.

SHFW began on the 9th of October and ends on the 17th of October. Here are the current shows and presentations in the lineup curated for you to keep an eye on and watch in retrospect. This calendar does not include trade shows or children’s wear collections taking place during Shanghai Fashion Week.

I am not familiar enough with the fashion scene in Shanghai to recommend any designers as a “One to watch”. By the end of SHFW, I will have a clearer view of what it takes to be ranked in comparison to the Big Four fashion cities. After all, the lack of representation and media attention is not a fair comparison for more developed fashion infrastructures.
