Grammys 2023: The Best Dressed List Tonight
The stars were out in full force for the (65th) 2023 Grammy Awards, and as usual, the night was full of incredible looks. The Grammys 2023 included everything from Lizzo to Harry Styles; florals, sparkles, and a naked dress. But in a sea of elaborate outfits, who came out on top?
Lizzo
Grammys 2023 Choice: Dolce & Gabbana
It’s safe to say that Lizzo had a great night at the Grammys. Lizzo won the Record of The Year award at the 2023 Grammy Awards and was one of the Best Dressed on the red carpet. Lizzo took to the red carpet in a vibrant orange cape covered in three-dimensional flowers.
Under the billowing cape, the About Damn Time singer revealed a more fitted corseted dress adorned with sparkling straps and boning detail. Potentially the most beautiful part of this look was Lizzo’s makeup. The star wore a vibrant blush shade that seamlessly flowed into her eyeshadow. It’s a technique that we have seen increasingly across editorial shoots and red carpets as of late.
Cardi B
Grammys 2023 Choice: Gaurav Gupta
Cardi B always goes above and beyond with her red carpet-looks. At this year’s Grammy Awards, she chose a cobalt blue architectural look for her first gown. Her outfit came courtesy of Indian designer Gaurav Gupta in one of the most show-stopping looks of the night. The dress felt almost aquatic as the waves of blue fabric flowed over Cardi’s head and upper body. The conclusion from this look, Gaurav Gupta is the designer to watch this year.
Cardi B
Grammys 2023 Choice: Paco Rabanne
However, Cardi B’s looks did not end there. Cardi took to the stage in a silver Paco Rabanne gown, paying tribute to the late designer when presenting the award for Best Rap Album. The angular look was from the Spring Summer 2021 collection. The collection played with chainmail and helmets in a celebration of female warriors. Cardi completed this look with the matching helmet. A beautiful tribute that stood out as one of the most influential looks of the night.
Doja Cat
Grammys 2023 Choice: Versace
Following her Fashion Month successes, Doja Cat pulled out all the stops in her Versace latex gown. The asymmetric design, mermaid train and tentacle-inspired earrings created a look not too far from Disney’s Ursula. Doja paired her striking pixie cut with micro-bangs, a dramatic winged eyeliner with a silver exaggerated inner corner. It matched the silver shimmers on her lips. After seeing this look, I will inevitably be disappointed in the costuming for Disney’s upcoming release of The Little Mermaid. Doja’s outfit was everything I could’ve asked for in a high-fashion Disney villain.
Camila Cabello
Grammys 2023 Choice: PatBo
Camila Cabello rarely makes her way onto my red-carpet radar. It’s not that her looks are bad by any means. They don’t usually excite me. However, I can’t stop considering Camila Cabello’s Grammy look this year. Camila stepped out on the red carpet in a high-waisted bodycon skirt with a high slit.
What’s so exciting about that? I hear you ask. Camila’s skirt was a perfect simplistic item to pair with the pearl triangle bra top that Patricia Bonaldi featured in her Spring 2023 Runway collection. The top featured pearls, beads and rose appliqués. Details carried through to the jewellery as well.
Olivia Rodrigo
Grammys 2023 Choice: Miu Miu
Olivia Rodrigo stepped away from her usual ‘y2k’ style in favour of 90s minimalism at this year’s Grammy Awards. It was executed perfectly. The sheer black slip dress was elegant, chic and an exciting step away from her usual style. Rodrigo’s long dark hair was sleek and flowing behind her shoulders to allow the delicate neckline of the dress to have its moment. Olivia completed her look with Tiffany & Co jewellery and a natural makeup look.Â
Harry Styles
Grammys 2023 Choice: Egonlab
It truly is Harry Styles’ world, and we are just living in it. In a whirlwind year, Mr Styles has seen an album release, broken records for his single As It Was, starred in two films, toured the world and topped it all off by winning the coveted Album of The Year at the 2023 Grammy awards.
Never scared of taking a fashion risk, Harry ditched the usual tuxedo and opted for a sparkling patchwork jumpsuit and white shoes instead. However, the traditional red-carpet dressing was not the only thing Harry ditched last night. He also wore Egonlab instead of his usual Gucci ensemble. Could this suggest the end of the partnership between Harry and the Italian fashion house now that Alessandro Michele is no longer Creative Director?
Beyoncé
Grammys 2023 Choice: Balmain
Beyoncé is the official Queen of the Grammys. Last night Queen Bey broke the record for having won the most Grammys ever, and she matched her three wins of the night with three winning outfits. The best must be the neutral Balmain dress she wore in the photographs with her Grammys. The structured look featured a gloved asymmetric gown over matching tights that covered the singer’s shoes. The monochromatic look juxtaposed her gold elements (perfect for her many awards), such as the armour-inspired bodice and a halo-inspired headpiece.Â
