Stay Safe: A Protective Morning Skincare Routine

Sometimes the world outside can feel harsh and cruel. And that might be because it is. Alongside all the hatred and fear, we also have pollution, allergens, and harmful light to contend with. So when considering your morning skincare routine, opt for something with a protective slant. It might be the best way to preserve your youth and keep skin looking radiant, dewy, clear, and smooth. Here’s what you need to know.
Wash Up
First things first, you want to be washing your face in the morning. Something gentle is fine for the morning, and I absolutely love CeraVe. Their Hydrating Cleanser is incredible for those with drier or sensitive complexions, as it leaves skin feeling calm, soft, and undeniably clean. For the oilier amongst us, consider instead their Foaming Cleanser, which manages to give a deeply cleansed feeling without getting overly dry or tight.

You can follow your cleanser with a toner to up the ante. The Kiehls Ultra Facial Toner is one of the best all-rounders on the market. It’s great for all skin types to balance and prep for the day. But if you’re on the drier side, I’m a huge fan of the Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Facial Toner. This is an amazing way to sandwich some extra moisture in, and it smells totally incredible, too.
Vitamin-c
I’m a huge fan of a vitamin C serum in the morning to help protect and repair skin. The Drunk Elephant C Firma Day Serum is an absolute classic. It’s definitely a failsafe if you’re looking for something reliable. And recently, I’ve been really enjoying the SVR ABC Ampoule Anti-Ox, which is more affordable and yet certainly reminds me of the Drunk Elephant.
Some people don’t get on with vitamin C, and that’s fine too. If you want a serum that’ll totally knock your socks off, I point you towards the Zelens Z Luminous Brightening Serum. It’s hugely expensive, which I cannot deny – but the immediate and cumulative effect it has on smoothness and brightness is nothing short of magical.
Moisturise
A good moisturizer is also key to skin protection. The Banil Co Dear Hydration Boosting Cream is a current favourite, and perfect if you’re into that K-Beauty “glass skin” look. I’m also a huge fan of the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream for the morning, which feels thick and luxurious and has the added bonus factor of SPF 50!
Speaking of SPF, you absolutely need to be wearing it to protect your skin if you’re planning on leaving the house. The Purito Centella Green Level Safe Sun SPF50+ is a great option for dry or sensitive skin. It feels super gentle and leaves the complexion dewy and ready for makeup.
For a multitasker, though, the Diego dalla Palma UV Daily Primer is an amazing product. Not only does it offer an SPF of 50, but it acts as a glow-boosting primer. Applied with fingers, it imparts a soft, pearly glow to the skin while also smoothing pores and blurring imperfections. Makeup looks perfect on top.
The Tula Face Filter Blurring and Moisturizing Primer are also amazing for smoothing and blurring. It looks slightly grey when pumped out. But takes on a softly glowy skin-like tint when massaged into the skin. It’s also amazing for adding some extra dew if you’re feeling dried out.
