Today we look back at some of Thierry Mugler’s most renowned looks over the years to honour his life, which sadly ended on January 23, 2022. Hollywood’s biggest names have worn Mugler’s masterpieces on the red carpet. Mugler, on the other hand, had a unique relationship with reality star and business mogul, Kim Kardashian. Over the years, the two of them have created some memorable standout ensembles. Mugler has always catered to Kim Kardashian’s unique style while maintaining his signature visual flair. These looks have always created a sensation on social media and in the fashion industry.
Favourite Thierry Collab 1:
5th Annual Hollywood Beauty Awards
In February 2019, Kim Kardashian wore vintage Thierry Mugler to the 5th Annual Hollywood Beauty Awards. She wore a black thigh-high slit dress with dramatic cut-outs from his Spring/Summer 1998 ready-to-wear collection. The garment had similar wrist straps and a velvet torso panel. Chris Appleton, her hairstylist, and the event’s main attraction styled her hair into a bun. She wore Perspex shoes that were very close, if not identical, to the Yeezy heels she usually wears.

2019 Met Gala and After Party
Kim Kardashian wore one of Mugler’s most iconic pieces to the 2019 Met Gala, dubbed the ‘Wet Look’. According to Vogue, the muse is a “California girl walking out of the beach drenched, dripping”. Sophia Loren in the film “Boy on a Dolphin” inspired Mugler’s first design in 20 years. Kim’s outfit is a skin-tight corset that cinches at her waist for an hourglass form. It’s constructed of silicone organza and dripping with glass crystals to seem like water droplets falling down her body. Mugler worked on this for about eight months.
She walked out in a blue figure-hugging latex dress with a low plunging neckline down to her belly button for her after-party look. To match her silver and blue tinsel hairdo, the garment is embellished with tinsel and additional glass crystals. She completed the ensemble with fingerless elbow-high gloves and neon blue go-go boots. This outfit, we believe, pays homage to Cher, her ultimate muse.

Vogue Arabia September 2019 Issue
Not long after the 2019 Met Gala, Thierry Mugler and Kim Kardashian’s friendship blossomed into a Vogue Arabia cover. Mugler himself directs the film, which has her wearing various classic Mugler items. He stated for the artistic direction of the shoot that he wanted a ‘surrealistic outdoor couture mood mixed with an antique hint’. Alongside his own, Mugler used pieces by Casey Cadwallader, the current creative director. Kim wears his black sculptural hip dress from the Resort 2020 collection paired with a blush corset underneath. Extreme fringing, an hourglass silhouette, and a tonal colour palette embody Mugler’s vision of modern antiquity.

Montreal Museum of Fine Arts
What better way to attend the ‘Thierry Mugler: Couturissime’ exhibition at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts than in vintage Mugler? Kim, on the other hand, didn’t just wear one garment, but two. Kim wore a one-shoulder blush pink silk gown with a gold bodice from Mugler’s couture collection for Fall 1999, named ‘Les Meduses’. She wore this with her famous Perspex heels and gave off an ethereal goddess vibe.
Her second ensemble came from the Mugler Spring 1994 collection. Her white tight-fitting short dress and white cut-out arm and wrist cuffs emphasised her stunning figure. The dress’s bodice is ridged, creating the illusion of pleats and enhancing the dress’s sculptural and architectural motifs.

During Halloween, Kim Kardashian teamed with Thierry Mugler for her costume, dubbed ‘Cowbot’. This design incorporates Mugler’s Spring 1992 cowboy style and his Fall 1995 couture show’s cyborg bodysuit. Mugler’s distinctive star symbol was featured in the centre of her metallic panel bra, which was completed with modern armoured chaps and sleeves. To complete the look, she added a reflecting mirror cowboy hat and silver firearms.
