Erica Suckow | 03.2021

At SARAHAMA, one of our primary focuses as a team, set out by our Editor in Chief is our mental health. It is important to us to put these matters first. We previously spoke to our friend Prisha Bathia, about life during Covid-19. Today we speak to our friend, Erica. All communications were conducted virtually to support social distancing and lockdown restrictions.

Sitting down with US blogger Erica. Read how she got on below.

Erica

SRHMA:

How are your spirits right now Erica?

ES:

I am doing well. Much better than I was before. I have become used to the chaos of the way the world is now.

SRHMA:

Has the pandemic affected your ability to blog?

ES:

The pandemic is actually the reason I started blogging. I was at home with my husband and kids, and found myself really isolated and turning to others on the internet for answers to my questions. There are people online who answer peoples questions, and I thought to myself that I would love to be the one of them.

“I have a voice that I want to share.”

ES:

Staying at home with my kids and being of charge of my own schedule has been a surprising benefit too. That’s when I decided to take my blog seriously.

Lifestyle

SRHMA:

How long have you been blogging?

ES:

I’ve been working on my blog since December. I began designing my website and social media accounts around then, and I officially launched my blog in January.

SRHMA:

Based on your blog, you are into fashion right? How would you describe your personal style?

ES:

The most important to me when finding clothes that I like is the comfort. I’m a mama of two and a Kindergarten teacher, so I am constantly on the move. But I do love to feel my best in what I’m wearing.

SRHMA:

How have you kept the children occupied during the pandemic?

ES:

I just had our second baby in November. I started back to work in August, but until then we did a lot of playing outside. We coloured, read many books, sang and danced.

SRHMA:

Congratulations on the new baby! How are you managing your time effectively, with everything going on?

ES:

I’m so used to going non-stop all the time that it feels almost foreign for me to stop. Blogging and connecting with others via social media is a way for me to relax while also keeping my mind busy, doing hobbies I love.

SRHMA:

Your blog is truly a lifestyle blog. You speak about food, education, other bloggers and fashion to name a few. Do you have a preference over which topic you write about?

ES:

I really prefer fashion. I would love to become a well known midsize fashion influencer, as I never saw girls that looked like me growing up, so it was difficult to find clothes that felt good.

Style

SRHMA:

What are your favourite fashion brands of the moment?

ES:

I have been shopping on the Jane app a lot. It’s a way for me to support small boutiques from around the US without travelling. I love the Zenana brand, aswell as FITTOO for activewear, Amazon.

SRHMA:

Do you have any favourite luxury brands, which you either own or would like to get as investment pieces?

ES:

Luxury wise is hard for me to answer. I truly live on a budget because I am a teacher. I try not to buy anything full price.

SRHMA:

What is one thing you have learnt about yourself, as a result go the pandemic?

ES:

I have learned that I don’t give myself enough credit fir being amazing. I work my butt off, and I deserve the credit! I’ve also grown to be the type of person who does things with myself in mind, not what I think everyone else wants of me. It’s been exhilarating and freeing.

Have you got any new rituals you now follow as a result of this mental shift?

ES:

I repeat positive affirmations with my kids and my students everyday. It’s something I’ve started doing for myself this past week. I’ve also started unplugging and spending more time with family after 3:30PM.

Beauty

SRHMA:

How do you reinvest into yourself, post looking after your family for the day?

ES:

I love listening to podcasts. I enjoy getting. lost in a good book; playing board games, or card games with my husband.

SRHMA:

What beauty secrets are you following religiously?

ES:

I think it’s so important to exfoliate. It keeps my skin really vibrant and lively looking. I always apply sunscreen and wash twice a day!

SRHMA:

What about beauty products on your vanity which you swear by?

ES:

I love the Elf Camo concealer, Milani foundation and setting spray. I will have to add Air spun loose powder. They are my FAVOURTIES!

SRHMA:

What are your plans post pandemic?

ES:

I can’t wait to take my kids out to dinner, and to visit my grandparents safely. I’m excited to hug my students and be able to eat lunch with my coworkers again.

ES:

I love taryntruly. She is a huge girl crush of mine. I also love jaimmykoroma.

Erica

Our first US influencer Erica has been a treat right from the start. She is passionate about fashion and her goals which is something we believe to be awe inspiring. There is a shift in the cultural space at current, in which we see more women defining the standards of beauty instead of men. We will be catching up with Erica soon, but for now check out her blog here. Thank you Erica!
