How Has Quarantine Made Sama Into An Amazing Housewife?
At SSEDITORIAL, one of our primary focuses as a team, set out by our Editor in Chief, is our mental health. It is important to us to put these matters first. As we all continue to take our health seriously, we asked our Editor in Chief, Sama, some questions about life during Covid-19. All responses are via email to support social distancing.
SAMA
SS:
Good morning. We hope you are keeping safe. How is quarantine treating you?
EIC:
Haha. Hello, my darlings; I am doing well, thank you. As of late, I have eased myself back into work and drinking as many fluids as possible to counteract the possibility of catching something. How are you?
SS:
We are keeping safe; thank you for asking. We are here to ask you a few questions, based on your experiences during quarantine, for our readers. Are you ready?
EIC:
Let’s have it.
PANDEMIC
SS:
Alright! First question. How did you stay productive throughout the first week of the quarantine period?
EIC:
Well, for the first few weeks, I wasn’t productive at all. I was out at the supermarkets early, trying to buy my essentials to bake.
SS:
Ah, yes, that’s right. During the early days of the pandemic in the UK, most households decided to bulk buy the essentials. Did you learn any new skills?
EIC:
Hmm… I learnt how to bake cinnamon buns. They are my favourite things when I have 6 am/7 am call times.
SS:
Why did you take up baking, of all the skills you could’ve learnt?
EIC:
There was not much else to do. Sports was out of the question, as well as seeing all my friends. All the time spent at home turned me into a little housewife! I was cooking something and cleaning every day. I also played many video games in the early days of the pandemic.
SS:
The UK has currently moved into a state of social distancing. Has anything changed about your routine compared to life before the pandemic?
EIC:
Yes! I have felt a new sense of self relating to how I view my beauty, body, brand, and character. I am spending more time caring for myself and championing mental health.
WELLNESS
SS:
As a team, we can all agree that mental health is an area of health that you are very concerned about. Why has mental health become your main concern due to the pandemic?
EIC:
Mental health is not my main concern, but it has been my priority since my days at university. Going through depressive cycles is the reason why I champion the topic. As an individual and a leader, I want to protect everyone and care for them. Some of us operate more efficiently when we are around groups of people. You guys are my team, and I want you all to succeed.
“YOU GUYS ARE MY TEAM AND I WANT YOU ALL TO SUCCEED.”
THE FUTURE
SS:
What else is a priority for you? Whether something you have experienced throughout life or as a result of the current pandemic?
EIC:
Racial Equality. Supporting LGBT rights, Black businesses, and Supporting Women. Creating support networks. Making advancements in the finance sector (I’ll tell you more about that soon). On a more personal level, reading has also been a priority.
SS:
That all sounds amazing. Why are these areas of life currently your focus?
EIC:
Racial equality is crucial to me because I am black. Many people still suffer in my community (especially women), so I need to stay current on these issues as much as possible. I mean have a look at Mo’Nique’s present case with Netflix. LGBT rights are important to me because I can empathise with people losing loved ones due to prejudice and discrimination. I hate persecution as a derivative of prejudice and discrimination. There are LGBT members within the black community whose ideologies I subscribe to. I like to listen to their points of view to understand events from their perspective. Some people in our society want to condemn others for living their life the way they choose to lead them. Maybe they should sweep around their front door before trying to clean around others.
THE BRAND
Thank you so much for sharing that. Do you see yourself sharing and becoming more proactive in these sectors as time passes?
EIC:
Oh absolutely. As this platform grows, I would love to use my position as Editor in chief to reach out to more professional and amateur community members. I want to speak about ways I could do something sentimental for our communities. Not for profit.
SS:
So, do you want to be here for a long time?
EIC:
Yes! I have big dreams, and this quarantine period made me plan my ideas. One of my reasons for starting SSEDITORIAL was to share the information I have about life with the public. I have a lot of friends who ask me where I get my outfits from or how they can run their business from an operational standpoint. Even taxes! So this is it. My stable platform for everyone to get that information from me. This is my happy place. My social media are private, so I wanted something to give to the world. Advice. Take it and run with it.
SS:
Well, thank you for starting our platform! We love it.
EIC:
You are most welcome, my dear.
SAMA
SS:
Is there anything else you want to say before we let you go?
EIC:
The NHS has been amazing during this time. I feel so lucky to live in a country with an organisation like theirs. Retired NHS workers also came back to the field. To work that many hours, with poor PPE, around a pandemic which has yet to be cured shows true selflessness. We need more people like that. I want to salute our NHS for their brilliant work. Also, a salutation of all medical services worldwide is in order. Fantastic all around. Did you know that Wuhan built a hospital in 2 WEEKS to control the virus outbreak?!
SS:
We do. Thank you so much for your time, and we wish you a happy rest of the week. We also want to say thank you for sharing your thoughts, feelings, and humour with us. Speak soon.
EIC:
Thank you for reaching out. I want you to stay safe as well. Also, well done and thank you for all your hard work putting the vision for SSEDITORIAL together. We are all one team, and I want everyone to feel a part of the success. Love to you all, and by the grace of our hard work, we will see more success in the future. I will speak to you all soon.
